Megabyte:
[voiceover] Get out! Run!

Directed by
Steve Ball

I'm melting! Meltiiiing![Voices are heard screaming. Fade in on the War Room, where AndrAIa, Phong, Matrix, Bob, Welman, Enzo, and Frisket are looking at the big VidWindow.]
Specky:
[voiceover] W-w-w-w-w-whaddaya going to do?
[Seen over Bob's shoulder, Megabyte is holding Specky up, as seen in "Null-Bot of the Bride." The image is sideways, there is a rounded rectangle framing the scene, and the word "REC" is in red in the corner. The viewpoint rotates so the image is rightside up. Megabyte raises Specky higher, then shrinks down to a duplicate of the binome. The real Specky falls, unconscious.]
Turbo:
[voiceover] So, it's confirmed.
[The viewpoint swings over to Turbo, who is present via a VidWindow.]
Turbo:
[continuing] Megabyte has Trojan horse viral capacity now.
Bob:
He can duplicate any form. He could be anywhere right in front of us and we'd never know.
Enzo:
[freaking out] No way! He could be here! He could even be me! What if I'm Megabyte now?!
Welman:
[warningly] Enzo.
Enzo:
[sighs] Sorry, Dad.
Turbo:
I'm sending a viral incident team immediately. They'll be there in nanoseconds.
Bob:
No!
Matrix:
What?
Bob:
[to Matrix] No. [to Turbo] Keep your executioners where they are. We'll deal with this ourselves.
Turbo:
[sighs] So now you wanna save Megabyte. [disapprovingly] Still clinging to your radical theories, huh, Bob?
Bob:
Look, Turbo, I don't care what you think of my ideas any more. If we'd done it your way - if we'd deleted Hex when she first arrived - the entire Net would've been destroyed by Daemon!
[Turbo frowns, as if unable to come up with a suitable reply.]
Phong:
The readme of fate is a complex program indeed.
Bob:
[to Turbo] If we need your help we'll call for it.
[Turbo opens his mouth to speak. Before he can say anything the VidWindow closes.]
Turbo:
Okay, Bob. This's your show now. Whaddo we do?
Bob:
Well, first, whaddo we know?
Turbo:
Megabyte's back, uglier than before, with some new tricks from the Web.
Welman:
The Web?
Phong:
Another level of cyberspace, my friend.
Welman:
[sighs] I've missed so much. I only dreamed of the Net. Now there is the Web as well.
[Phong nods.]
AndrAIa:
But Megabyte shouldn't've survived the Web.
Bob:
My code protected him.
AndrAIa:
Bob, how did he get your code in the first place?
[Bob presses some controls. A VidWindow opens up. He looks at it.] Retcons. Gotta love 'em.
Bob:
I've been thinkin' about that.
[The VidWindow shows Megabyte holding Glitch, from "Web World Wars." As Bob speaks, Megabyte raises Glitch. The camera zooms in on Megabyte's hand as he squeezes the keytool.]
Bob:
[continuing] Before he shot me into the Web, Megabyte crushed Glitch.
[White electrical-looking lines flash between Megabyte's hand and Glitch. The frame freezes.]
Bob:
There! At that point there was a partial transfer of code. Once I was in the web, I - I changed. I didn't realize the code was missing.
Phong:
This also explains why both Megabyte and Bob were only partially degraded by the Web!
AndrAIa:
They both had some Guardian code.
[Something begins beeping. The camera swings over to Specky. He is looking at a group of binomes on a small VidWindow.]
Specky:
[panicky] Sir! we have a situation outside!

Eye wide shut [Cut to a sign: "THE VIRAL SKULL IS CALLING YOU!" The camera pulls back to show the ex-virals, plus Herr Doktor and Bunnyfoot, walking around on one of the bridges leading to the Principle Office, holding signs, and chanting a call-and-response. Other signs show Megabyte's frowny and say "MEGABYTE" and "BRING BACK MEGGY!"]
Chauncy:
What do we want?
Other Demonstrators:
We want to be viral!
Chauncy:
When do we want it?
Other Demonstrators:
Now!
[CPU binomes stand between the demonstrators and other binomes, including Old Man Pearson, Al's Waiter, Al's Second Waiter, a Zero nurse, and others. As the demonstrators chant, the counterdemonstrators shout and boo.]
Chauncy:
What do we want?
Other Demonstrators:
We want to be viral!
Chauncy:
When do we want it?
Other Demonstrators:
Now!
[The viewpoint pulls back over the roofs of a line of CPU cars.]
Chauncy:
What do we want?
Other Demonstrators:
We want to be viral!
Chauncy:
When do we want it?
Other Demonstrators:
Now!
Chauncy:
What do we want?
Other Demonstrators:
We want to be viral!
Chauncy:
When do we want it?
Other Demonstrators:
Now!
Chauncy:
What do we want?
Other Demonstrators:
We want to be viral!
Chauncy:
When do we want it?
Other Demonstrators:
Now!
[The camera stops on the last car, which is black instead of green. Inside sit a Zero and a One who are wearing shades, black hats, and dark blue suits.]
Blues Binome 1:
[to the Zero] Mainframe Neo-Virals.
Blues Binome 0:
[to the One] I hate Mainframe Neo-Virals.
[The chanting and booing is still going on. The One presses on the gas. The car starts forward. It drives beside the line of CPU cars. The horn blows. Some of the counterdemonstrators look back.]
Herr Doktor:
Hold your ground, my proud viral warriors!
[The demonstrators and counterdemonstrators begin to scatter to the sides. The, seen from the inside of the car, the demonstrators and counterdemonstrators begin to scatter to the sides. Herr Doktor yelps and runs to the side. The car drives over the bridge, barely missing the demonstrators. Herr Doktor and Bunnyfoot end up hanging from one side by their hands. The counterdemonstrators rhubarb. Then they run down the bridge, many of them stepping on Herr Doktor's fingers.]
Herr Doktor:
[As his digits are trod upon] Ooh! Eeh! Ooh! Ooh! Ahh! Eeh! Aah! Ooh!
[Herr Doktor's hands are visibly throbbing.]
Herr Doktor:
[wailing] Ahh, my digits!
[The black car, the front license plate of which reads "BDR 529", continues down the bridge. Then it lifts up into the air and flies away over the camera. The camera tilts up to show the dome of the Principle Office. Above it six outward-facing VidWindows open. Mike the TV is seen within them.]
Mike:
[newscaster voice] This is Mike the TV with a breaking news story! Oh no, this just in! [theatrically] Be alarmed! Be very alarmed! Megabyte has returned to Mainframe!
[In Dot's Diner, Cecil and bunch of binomes - including Al's Waiter - watch, alarmed.]
Mike:
[continuing] With new viral powers! Oh, he could be anywhere! He could be anyone!
[Mike appears to speak from a large VidWindow directly to two One binomes.] Here kitty kitty
Mike:
[continuing] Is that really your wife, Mr. Norton? Is that really your pussy, Mrs. Slocum?
[The group in the War Room watch.]
Mike:
[continuing] Trust no one! For no one is safe from his evil viral clutches! Oh no. Panic! Panic now! Panic as only you know how to do!
[Over a long shot of the entire system, the VidWindows close and we hear the screams of a panicking mob.]

Bob:
What in the Net is Mike doing?!
Matrix:
[angrily] I don't know, but when I get my hands on him- [raises a fist]
AndrAIa:
This is just causing mass panic.
Bob:
[smacking himself on the forehead with the palm of his hand] Hey, it's not Mike, it's Megabyte!
Matrix:
What?!
Phong:
Oh, of course! Panic only helps him. And it causes us nothing but trouble.
[Bob nods agreement.]
AndrAIa:
So how do we catch him?
Welman:
Perhaps we could devise a test. A way of identifying him. Then we can see who's real-
Enzo:
But Dad! When he was Bob he fooled us all!
AndrAIa:
And even Phong's scans couldn't detect the difference.
Phong:
[putting a hand to his head] Oh dear.
Bob:
[frowning] Right. So if we can't ID him, we'll just have to outsmart him.
Phong:
Go on, Bob.
Bob:
[after a pause] Where's Dot?

[As the camera follows the Leatherman Smalltown Binome, who is walking through a parklike area. we hear the pinnacle VidWindows open. The camera pans up as Phong clears his throat.]
Phong:
This is a systemwide announcement on behalf of the Principle Office.
[A One binome with a briefcase and wide-brimmed hat stops walking and looks up.]
Phong:
[continuing] Due to some... circumstances, we are advising citizens to return to their homes,
[The one with the briefcase becomes worried. Two binome children huddle against the skirt of a Goldilocks binome.]
Phong:
[continuing] filelock doors and windows, and remain there until further notice.
[A group of binomes in a park, including Dino De Horrendous, the Clown Binome, Emma See, and the Goldilocks binome (minus children and plus a parasol) look at the VidWindow.]
Phong:
[continuing] We apologize for any inconvenience but assure you that normal status will be resumed as soon as possible. There is no cause for alarm. Well, maybe a small cause for alarm.
[A pair of One binomes edge closer together and look fearfully around.] Whose side are you on, Phong?
Phong:
[continuing] Just make sure you stay in pairs at all times and do not walk the city alone. Oh, and, uh, before I forget, here is an artist's impression of Megabyte's new form.
[The image on the VidWindows shifts to show a terrifying picture of Megabyte, claws out, looking as if he is about to attack. The sounds of general panic are heard. Bob and Matrix, on zip boards, fly up in front of the image.]
Matrix:
[sarcastically] Aw, nice one, Phong!
[Bob and Matrix look at each other, then fly away. The camera comes down to another parklike setting. Hack and Slash are looking up as if watching the announcement, except they are facing away from the VidWindows. Dot is sitting on a park bench, looking miserable. Mouse is standing in front of her.]
Phong:
[continuing] Please report any sightings of Megabyte to the authorities. That is all.
Mouse:
You can't keep beatin' yourself up about it, Dot. He had us all goin', y'know.
Dot:
[distraught] Oh, Mouse, I almost married Megabyte!
[She shudders in horror. Hack and Slash look at her sympathetically.]
Mouse:
[patronizingly] I know. But who can blame you? He played you like a movie file, honey! He used your emotions against you. Your memories of the past. Your feelings for Bob.
Dot:
And that's what really hurts. [guiltily] I gave up on him. Again. I turned my back on the real Bob. I-I feel like I betrayed him. Imagine how he must feel.
Mouse:
But this is Bob! He'll forgive you.
Dot:
Are you sure? I don't think I could forgive that easily. I feel so ashamed.
Mouse:
Dot, you've got to talk to him.
Dot:
[holding up a hand] I can't face him, Mouse. Not yet.
[Both look up and to the side. Matrix and Bob, flying on zip boards, approach. Dot steps behind Mouse.]
Mouse:
Hi, boys.
Bob:
Hi. [holding up a hand] Hello, Dot.
[Dot looks away.]
Mouse:
What's up?
Bob:
I need a word with Dot.
Mouse:
[looking back at Dot] Good! You've got things to talk about. I'll be moseyin' along.
Dot:
[to Mouse] No! No, wait! Don't leave. What if that's not Bob?
Matrix:
What?!
Bob:
[shaking his head, exasperated] Oh, brother.
Dot:
No, a-a- how do we know it's really Bob? He could be-
Hack and Slash:
[shouting, terrified] Megabyte!
[The bots gibber in panic and look this way and that.]
Slash:
Run away! Keep twistin' that knife. He won't mind. He's Bob.
[Both bots use their rockets to fly away. Mouse draws her katana and holds it out in front of Bob.]
Mouse:
Oh, some bodyguards!
Matrix:
Sis, of course it's Bob! I've been with him all along.
Bob:
Dot, it's me! It's really me, can't you tell?
Dot:
[hanging her head] No! No, I can't. Not now.
Bob:
Look, Dot, we - I need you back at the Principle Office. Megabyte's out there, somewhere. Help me catch him and we can end this - together.
[Dot looks down, then after a few nanos back up at Bob.]

[Cut to a dark, industrial looking place. We hear a siren in the background. The camera pans down the flickering neon sign on Al's Wait and Eat. Fade to the interior, where Herr Doktor and Bunnyfoot have a booth. Herr Doktor is lying on his back on the table and Bunnyfoot is standing in a seat and looking at the empty mug in his hand.]
Herr Doktor:
[sitting up abruptly] Ah! Mein digits! [He wiggles his bandaged fingers.] I can't feel my digits!
[Herr Doktor puts his hands over his eye and sobs. The camera pans over to the next table, where Chauncy and three other former Virals are talking.]
Ex-Viral 1:
When we get our hands on those two, they'll be sorry!
Chauncy:
I got their license, don't worry, BDR 529. We'll teach 'em the meaning of the word respect!
Mike:
[offscreen] Respect!
[All ex-virals look over. Mike the TV walks up to the table.]
Mike:
[continuing] And what would a neo-Viral know about respect?
Ex-Viral 1:
Watch it, Mike, or you'll be the first to get to war when the revolution comes!
[Chauncy and the binome sitting next to him not to each other.]
Mike:
Revolution? Oh, yeah, right! And how will you do that, hmm? Together, you haven't the CPU power to drive a calculator!
Ex-Viral 1:
[yelling] Ah, that's it! I'm gonna change your channel, pal!
[Ex-Viral 1 hops out of the booth seat.] This time the channel changes BACK!
Mike:
[in Megabyte's voice] Stay where you are.
[Ex-Viral 1 stares, open mouthed. "Mike" bends forward and morphs into Megabyte, who unfolds from his curled-up position to tower over them with outstretched claws. The Ex-Virals tremble.]
Ex-Viral 1:
[hopping back into his seat] Uh-oh!
Herr Doktor:
[happily] Oh! Mein Grossenbyte!
Megabyte:
[to Herr Doktor] Ah, good Doctor. Keeping the faith, I see?
[Herr Doktor, smiling, nods.]
Al:
[voiceover] What?!
[Megabyte looks over. Al's Waiter looks back toward Al, then at Megabyte, nervously. Megabyte turns back to the Ex-Virals.]
Megabyte:
I have returned. Now submit your PIDs and join me. Together we will welcome a new viral dawn.
[The Ex-Virals stare up at Megabyte. Al's Waiter edges back.]
Megabyte:
[continuing] Do this willingly and you will reap the rewards of the victorious. Resist, and...
Assimilate us! [Megabyte turns to Al's Waiter, who is still slowly edging back, frightened. Megabyte holds out a one arm. Two tentacles snake out from the back of his wrist and strike Al's Waiter, who turns gray with a red icon and green-pupiled red eye. The tentacles pull away, leaving him pale grey with a green and black icon and a red-pupiled green eye. He looks up apathetically. Megabyte reels in the tentacles and lowers his hands, then turn back to the Ex-Virals.]
Megabyte:
Well, you get the picture.
[All of the Ex-Virals hold out their PIDs to Megabyte. Their expressions change from fear to eagerness. Megabyte smirks.]

[PLACE COMMERCIAL HERE]
All right, Bob. Fire the big gun. [The doors of a CPU hangar open. Two large tanks and a set of flying cars lift off, escorting a vehicle with the Gateway mounted in its top. They fly out of the Principle Office. Bob and Matrix are sitting in a pair of cockpit chairs.]
Bob:
Cleared the hangar. Mouse, keep your eye on those scanners.
[Mouse is seen on a monitor mounted in front of and between the control chairs.]
Mouse:
They're still clear.
Bob:
Roger that. Gateway command on its way to the Archive.

[Seen on the big VidWindow in the War Room, the vehicles fly down into the bowl-like area surrounding the Principle Office's lower half. Specky and some CPUs watch. Two CPUs look at Specky. Specky and Mouse look at each other. Then Mouse and Phong look at each other.]
Phong:
[to Dot] You are sure Megabyte will attempt to steal the Gateway command?
[Dot is standing at the top of the balcony, with Hack and Slash behind her.]
Dot:
Positive. I may have made some tactical mistakes against Daemon, but this Virus I know. He always wanted access to the Supercomputer, and the Gateway's the perfect way to get there.
Mouse:
And when he was Bob we even showed him that it works!
Dot:
Exactly!
Phong:
[shaking his head] Oh dear.
Mouse:
If he got to the Supercomputer now, with his new abilities-
Phong:
[interrupting] But we do not even know the extent of his new abilities!
[Mouse turns and looks at Dot. Hack and Slash look at Dot.]
Specky:
Sir-Ma'am, the convoy is approaching the Archive.
[We see the convoy in the big VidWindow.]
Dot:
Phong, ready the access code.
[A beeping begins.]
Mouse:
Incoming! Magnetic shoes?
[Missiles shoot three of the CPUs out of the air from behind. Eight ABCs approach them from outside the Principle Office area. They chase and shoot at the convoy. Two of the convoy vehicles turn back toward the ABCs, and are blasted into wreckage. The two tanklike vehicles are shot down, leaving the Gateway's vehicle unprotected. The Gateway vehicle flies around the curve of the Principle Office's lower half. When it meets the ABCs coming from the opposite direction it turns around and flies back. The ABCs fly after it and surround it, with vehicles in front of, above, below, and on either side of it. The back hatch of the vehicle in front of and slightly above the Gateway vehicle opens. Two armed virals walk out onto the hatch. Seen from inside, the vehicle ceiling splinters inward with a flash of light. The virals jump down through the hole. They look around. Then they see the cockpit. The control seats are empty.]
Viral 1:
There's no driver. It's being operated remotely!
[Viral 2 shoots part of the cockpit with his staff weapon.]
Viral 2:
Now it's not. Get a tractor beam on it. We'll tow it.
[Viral 1 salutes.]
[Seen on the big VidWindow, a device like one end of a tile-puller extends from the back of the ABC in front of the gateway vehicle and throws a green energy field around it. The ABCs fly off with their prize. Dot watches intently.]
Phong:
Where does he get those ABCs from?
Mouse:
It didn't take him long to build an army again, did it?
Phong:
Just as Dot surmised!
Mouse:
And now he has the Gateway command!
Dot:
[smugly] Don't'cha love it when a plan comes together?

[Two ABCs are walking down the bridge leading away from the Principle Office. They stop and stare as the ABCs fly overhead with the Gateway vehicle, which is no longer held by an energy field. A nano later another ABC rises over the bridge and flies after the rest.]

[The camera comes down in a dark industrial-looking area. The ABCs are grounded in a ring around the Gateway command. The camera fades to a closer view. Megabyte is standing before the empty ring. A group of nine virals stands in a 3x3 formation next to the ramp leading to the ring. On the opposite side of the ramp Herr Doktor and Bunnyfoot are working at a control panel. Megabyte turns toward Herr Doktor.] Are we there yet?
Megabyte:
[impatiently] Herr Doktor, it is only a matter of time before the Guardian and his friends show up!
[Herr Doktor continues working as Megabyte speaks. He looks up, raises his no-longer-bandaged hands, and smiles as the Gateway fills with a ripply silver. Seen in reflection, Megabyte looks at it.]
Herr Doktor:
The Gateway is online and functioning perfectly, Lord Megabyte.
Megabyte:
Excellent. [laughs softly] Now hurry! Target the Supercomputer.
[Herr Doktor goes back to work and Megabyte looks at the rippling surface. It suddenly clears, showing the cathedral-like section of the Supercomputer.]
Megabyte:
Finally! I'm rid of this pathetic little system.
[Megabyte turns and looks back at the virals. They are smiling, their hands raised in salutes. He turns back toward the gateway and walks into it - and through to the backside. The "portal" once again becomes a ripply silver. Megabyte looks around, surprised. Herr Doktor gasps. Megabyte turns toward him, hands held out and half opened as if ready to strangle someone.]
Herr Doktor:
[surprised] Was ist das? [turns back toward the control panel]
Megabyte:
[angrily] Herr Doktor! What's going on?!
[Herr Doktor and Bunnyfoot are both frantically pushing buttons.]
Herr Doktor:
[frightened] Ah, ah, I do not understand! Phong's Angels
[Hearing a pounding, Megabyte looks at the vehicle in front of himself. The back hatch of the ABC falls open, revealing Bob, AndrAIa, Matrix, Frisket, and six CPU binomes within.]
Bob:
Having trouble, Megabyte?
Megabyte:
It's a trap!
Matrix:
[Holding Gun out] You're not the only one with Trojan horse abilities!
[The virals begin firing. The Sprites shoot back, Bob with Glitch, Matrix with Gun, and AndrAIa flinging fingernails. The ABCs fire weapons. Frisket growls. Virals run across their own line of fire. Bob runs behind an ABC, then pops out to fire Glitch several times. Matrix, similarly using the other side of the ABC for cover, shoots Gun. AndrAIa stands out in the open, shooting fingernails like darts. Virals run about. Herr Doktor and Bunnyfoot try to sneak away. Herr Doktor almost walks right into Frisket's muzzle. Frisket, what can be seen of him, is growling.]
Herr Doktor:
[terrified] Aaaah! Ein Grossenbiter!
Bob:
[still firing intermittently] Don't let Megabyte shift! [looking at Matrix behind the ABC] Matrix!
[Matrix looks at Bob, then up. Megabyte is superleaping - with a somersault in the middle, naturally - away from the Gateway.]
Matrix:
I'm on it! Gun! Target! You're it!
[An extra-large targeting icon emerges from Gun's muzzle and attaches itself to Megabyte's chest. Megabyte looks down at it, then looks around. He leans down and "tags" a viral, then assumes its shape. The viral falls, unconscious. Megabyte looks down and sees that he is still wearing the icon. He walks off. Matrix, holding Gun out but not shooting, watches him. Seen from Matrix's targeting viewpoint - which flashes once when Megabyte is in the center - Megabyte looks around, then tags Herr Doktor, whose digits are once again bandaged. He assumes Herr Doktor's form and Herr Doktor falls, unconscious. Bunnyfoot runs toward Megabyte. Megabyte tags him and takes his form. Then he looks around. He is surrounded by unconscious virals.]
Matrix:
[holding Gun out] Game over, Virus!
[Megabyte resumes his shape and holds up one hand.]
Megabyte:
No! Don't!
[Matrix shoots. The burst Hits Megabyte in the chest, knocking him back and suspending him in a tear. He screams, then lashes out with his hands as if trying to swat something.]
Bob:
[holding his left arm up] Glitch! Portal!
[Glitch shoots a beam at the tear. It stabilized into a portal, in which the prison area can be seen. The portal then disappears. Bob speaks into Glitch.]
Bob:
Dot!
[Dot is seen in Glitch's wheel. Cheering can be heard in the background.]
Dot:
We've got him. He's in a holding cell.
[Matrix turns. AndrAIa runs up to him and jumps into his arms. Bob smiles as he looks at them. then he looks down at Glitch when Dot speaks.] Awwwwwwwwwww.
Dot:
Well done, Bob.
Bob:
Dot... I, uh...
Dot:
Yes, Bob?
Bob:
[smiling] We make a great team.
Dot:
We always did.
[She looks down briefly, then back up at him. He smiles, looking very relieved.]

[PLACE COMMERCIAL HERE]
[The camera approaches the Principle Office from outside. Then it fades to the Core (as seen in "Infected") and spirals down from above to the Gateway, which is on the central platform. As the camera approaches it, Megabyte and Bob speak.]
Megabyte:
[voiceover] So I imagine the real Gateway command is in a safe place.
Bob:
[voiceover] The safest.
Megabyte:
[voiceover] Safer than the Archive? The Core room. [laughs] Now why didn't I think of that?
Bob:
[voiceover] You must be slipping, Megabyte!
[cut to Megabyte]
Megabyte:
You know, I really must congratulate you, Bob, it was the perfect trap.
[Bob and Matrix are seen over Megabyte's shoulder. They are on the other side of a firewall. Bob is at a control panel.]
Bob:
Thank you, but I can't take the credit. Tanning booth
[Seen from behind and above Bob and Matrix, Megabyte is in a small room, with a transparent firewall over the entrance.]
Megabyte:
No, no, you never were the brains of the opposition, were you? [looking around the cell] I assume I have the lovely Dot Matrix to thank for my present circumstances.
Bob:
Seems fair. After what you tried to do to her!
Megabyte:
Oh, this must go a long way to satisfy your overactive sense of fair play.
[Bob looks up from the control panel and glares at Megabyte.]
Matrix:
[to Bob] Let's get this over with!
Megabyte:
So what now? Deletion?
Bob:
No. Just a scan. I don't believe in deletion.
Megabyte:
You can't go against your code.
Bob:
And neither can you. That's the problem. It's not your fault. You're programmed to be this way. We've just gotta work out a way to reprogram you.
Megabyte:
[gesturing to himself] So... I won't be a Virus?
Bob:
That's the plan.
Megabyte:
Ah. So... a fate worse than deletion. [leans forward] And they call me a monster.
[He glares at Bob. Bob's expression tightens. Then he looks down and begins tapping at the control panel. Megabyte looks down, alarmed, as a plane of light begins to rise up from his feet. He raises his arms as if to keep away from it.]
Mike:
[voiceover, distant sounding] Uh, guys?
[Bob and Matrix turn around and the camera swivels to where Mike, looking miserable, is standing in another cell.]
Mike:
Does this mean I can go now?

[In the War Room, people are cheering, clapping, and drinking from mugs. Dot and Mouse are at the balcony control panel.]
Mouse:
Well, Dot, it's finally over.
Dot:
It sure looks that way.
Mouse:
[saluting] It's been a pleasure servin' with you, sugah.
Dot:
You're taking off? Call me next time ya need lousy advice, sugah
Mouse:
Don't worry, honey. If you need a bridesmaid, I'll be back.
[Mouse smiles brightly. Dot looks less happy.]
Mouse:
Go to him, Dot. [lays a hand on Dot's shoulder] He needs you.
Sir:
Cocoa, mum?
[Dot looks down. Sir is holding up a tray with a normal sized mug of black liquid. When Dot picks it up it is a very large mug.]

[The yellow plane of light rises through Megabyte. It disappears after it passes his head.]
Bob:
Scan complete. Data download in progress. Now, was that so bad?
[A VidWindow opens in front of Bob. It shows upward scrolling blocks of binary data, mostly zeroes, repeating in the same pattern of four lines.]
Bob:
[in disbelief] This... isn't possible! There's nothing here! [looks at Megabyte] Or there!
Matrix:
Bob! Drop the firewall!
[Megabyte grins smugly.]
Bob:
I can't! H-he'll- Matrix! Casper the Fiendish Virus
[Matrix draws Gun and shoots at a control panel beside the cell. The firewall flickers and disappears. Matrix runs into the cell. When Megabyte swats at him his arm shatters into bits. Matrix seizes him by the throat. Megabyte's head flashes with white square patterns and begins to fray apart as Matrix pushes his crest into the wall.]
Bob:
It's an alias! It's not him!
Matrix:
[to Megabyte] Where are you?
Megabyte:
[laughs] Guess!
[Matrix draws back and punches Megabyte, who shatters into fragments of light. Matrix turns around with a surprised expression. Bob also looks surprised.]
[In the War Room, Dot is lowering the mug in slow motion. There is a beep, then Bob speaks.]
Bob:
Dot!
[Mouse, Dot, Hack, and Slash look over at the big VidWindow on which Bob has appeared.]
Bob:
We don't have Megabyte! It was an alias! He must be in the War Room with you! One of you is Megabyte, do you understand? He's tricked us! Get out of there now!
Watch me walk the dog [The camera orbits around Dot. She pulls back and freezes. Cut to Mouse, who is frozen with an expression of disbelief. AndrAIa is frozen too, looking either as if she has just dropped her cocoa mug on her foot or is in the middle of a sneeze. Specky is frozen in mid-panic. Enzo is frozen looking around. Five CPUs are frozen looking as if they are undecided as to what they are going to do. Hack and Slash are frozen facing each other in confusion. Welman is frozen with one hand raised. Mike the TV is frozen walking down the steps, an expression of dread on his face. Phong is frozen, mouth open, looking very ducklike. Frisket is frozen with his mouth and eyes wide open. He unfreezes and crouches down, growling and shuddering, as if sick. Then he morphs into Megabyte. Megabyte uncurls and stands up, hands spread threateningly. The CPUs in the War Room panic and run around. Megabyte raises his arm and shoots two cables. They strike a CPU in the back, turning it into a gray, zombielike viral. Two more CPUs are likewise infected with one cable each. Megabyte turns around and looks up to where Hack, Slash, Dot, and Mouse are. Dot looks down, alarmed, at Enzo, who is standing there while CPUs run about uselessly.]
Dot:
[reaching out to Enzo] No! Enzo!
[Hack and Slash seize Dot by the forearms and drag her back through a door, which closes when they are through. Mouse draws her katana and bares her teeth. Megabyte snarls and shoots a pair of cables at her. When they come close she swings her katana quickly, chopping it into many segments, which fall to the ground at her feet. Megabyte reels in the remainder of the cables. AndrAIa runs up behind Dot. The door opens again. AndrAIa grabs Mouse by one elbow. They go back through the door. Megabyte throws the cables from his other arm. Phong looks alarmed. In slow motion the cables snake toward AndrAIa and Mouse. Phong leaps into the path of the cables, intercepting them. The cables attached to his front, Phong lands hard and skids. Welman, carrying Enzo under one arm, runs past Phong and into another room. The door begins to close. Two cables strike the doors, stopping them, and a third stabs the middle of Welman's mechanical suit. He drops Enzo. The suit glows and thrashes, then turns blue. When Enzo looks up, his jaw drops open.]

[Hack and Slash drag Dot down a corridor. She is fighting them, her feet sliding on the slick floor.]
Dot:
Stop. Stop! Stop!
[Hack and Slash stop.]
Hack:
[frightened[ Oh boy oh boy oh boy! He, he's free!
Slash:
[frightened] Yeah! Ah, what're we gonna do!
Hack:
Y-y-yeah, we need a plan!
Slash:
Ah, we need a plan big-time!
Hack:
Oh yeah!
Hack and Slash:
[yelling at Dot] What's the plan?!
Dot:
[yelling] Boys, shut up and let me think!
Hack:
[softly] Oh.
Slash:
[softly] Sorry.
Hack:
[softly] Sorry.
Slash:
[mumbling to Hack] We still need a plan.
Hack:
[whispering] Would you shut up!
[Mouse taps with one hand at a wall-mounted control panel made up of red, green, and black buttons. Below it is a screen in which the words "> access denied" appears. Mouse wears a look of concentration on her face. AndrAIa is facing the other way, guarding Mouse's back. AndrAIa holds her trident out in front of herself and looks down the three corridors that approach their area. Over and over Mouse presses combinations of keys, and with a low beep another "access denied" message appears. Mouse frowns. After another unsuccessful attempt she clenches her fist.]
Mouse:
[frustrated] Raaah! Nothin'!

[Matrix and Bob run down a passage. They approach a four-way intersection. Megabyte's voice echoes through the area, as if broadcast on a public address system.]
Megabyte:
Attention. As you are no doubt aware, the Principle Office is now under my complete control. I'm the plumber. I've come to fix your sink.
[Bob and Matrix stop running and look up. Cut to the War Room, which is now blue, covered with snaky cables, and thoroughly viral looking. Megabyte is standing at the balcony control panel.]
Megabyte:
[continuing] You're probably looking forward to one of my erudite speeches about me,
[Cut to the exterior. The Pinnacle VidWindows are broadcasting Megabyte's speech.]
Megabyte:
[continuing] Megaframe, the new viral dawn, et cetera et cetera.
[Dot looks up, horrified.]
Megabyte:
[continuing] But I'm afraid I'm going to have to disappoint you.
[Mouse and AndrAIa look up, listening.]
Megabyte:
[continuing] There is no grand scheme here. Like my manicure?
[Cut back to Megabyte.]
Megabyte:
This is about revenge. Viruses are predatory by design.
[Cut to Bob and Matrix, who are still looking at the ceiling.]
Megabyte:
And it is time for me to follow my function.
[Cut back to the War Room. Near Megabyte, Welman's exoskeleton is holding a struggling Enzo by the shoulders.]
Megabyte:
[continuing] Prepare yourselves... for the hunt!
[The camera comes in on Megabyte's evil grin.]
